Overheard in the office:

"There's some things that Windows 98 does better than XP. It crashes a lot better..."

I had XP, and I got more crashes than I had when I had 98 SE.
Also, I found that 98 SE is more secure. Last night my
computer(which was running XP btw)kept crashing, due to all
the errors and my OS ended up getting corrupted to the point
where even the main file to run it got deleted, luckily for
me I had a couple 98 SE cds left, and the product key so I
reinstalled it, and after tinkering around with it for a
while I got everything back(except for the audio drivers, but
I know where to get the drivers for my speakers and I’ll do
it when I’m not feeling lazyxD)including internet, and
everything seems to be running smoothly with no errors:)

If 98 works better than XP on your computer then either your doing something wrong, your hard drive is screwed up (just because it loads don’t always mean your drive is good), your got a virus, or your copy of windows is screwed up (make sure is not scratched).
By the way I recommend having at least 256mb of ram for Xp.
If you update Windows Xp it makes it a lot more reliable

You folks might be taking the post a little too seriously. Thankfully, the comment stream is amusing for this particular post. :)

We have several Win98′s that send information to CNCs via Serial COM
and using the same communication program and parameters on WinXP
it fails everytime. I guarentee the only difference is the OS. WinXP blows.

98 is great for the following reasons:
- Small
- Fast
- Runs DOS based games that sometimes XP cannot run, even in compatibility mode, without DOS box or similar.

XP is great because, unlike 98, it supports:
- Newer hardware + games & programs
- Stable + built in system restore
- Native zip support, better built in image viewer
- Supports drives over 32 GB, & with a service pack added (such as SP2, for example), supports drives to 2 Terrabytes.
- Can use files over 4 GB, but NOT more than 4 GB zip. WinRar is good for this.

98 has a lot of memory/hardware/program limitations, but one group is putting out a free revolutions pack & kernel EX to make 98 run “XP only” & higher software.

Very good effort. What happens if they end up putting so much open source around a closed source os like 98, that it becomes faster, better, more secure, & better looking than the most recent offerings?
